Radix MDM: Ad-hoc One-Time Remote Management and Control Session

Overview

The Ad Hoc Radix MDM Session is a feature that allows for managing devices across different accounts and domains. If you administer a fleet of devices, you may temporarily add a device that is not currently a member of your fleet, for remote support or remote control without enrolling the device to your account.

Note! The remote management session can be terminated at any time by the remote user or the administrator.

Remote User Side – Starting an Ad Hoc Session and Obtaining a Session Token

  1. The user opens the VISO app on their device and clicks on the kebab menu in the upper right corner. A drop-down menu opens.

  2. Click on “Start Ad-Hoc session”. The Session Token window opens, displaying a 9-digit session token.

  3. Send the Session Token number to your administrator, so that your administrator can hook up your device to the Radix Device Manager.

Administrator Side – Adding a Remote Device Using an Ad-Hoc Token ID

The administrator now uses the Session Token ID to initiate the remote session.

To start the ad-hoc session:

  1. From the Overview Dashboard, click on the Devices Console icon in the menu on the left. The Device Console opens.

  2. At the top of the Devices Console, you’ll see the Ad-hoc Session icon. Click on the icon to open the Ad-hoc Session window.

  3. Enter the Token ID code provided to you by the user and click on Start.

  4. Once the session starts, the user device will be visible in your Device Console, just like the other devices in your fleet. For example, in the list of devices below, note that the device HA195F3Y has been added in an ad-hoc session.

  5. Click on the line of the device that has been added, to open up its Device Dashboard. You can apply any command, install apps, control the device remotely, and so on.

Terminating an Ad Hoc Session

There are two ways for the Administrator to terminate the ad-hoc session:

Method One: From the Stop Session Command
  1. Open up the device’s dashboard, by clicking on the device’s listing in the Device Console.

    The Device Dashboard opens.
  2. Note the Stop Session button in the list of commands on the right-hand side. Clicking Stop Session will terminate the ad-hoc session.

The device will no longer appear in the administrator’s Device Console:

Method Two: From the Remove Device Command

Alternatively, the administrator can remove the device from their list from the Manage tile in the menu on the right-hand side.

  1. Open up the device’s dashboard, by clicking on the device’s listing in the Device Console, as above.
  2. In the menu on the right, click on Manage.
  3. In the drop-down menu that opens up, click on Remove.

    The Remove dialog box opens.

  4. Click on Yes to end the ad hoc remote session.
Termination by the Remote User

If the user of the remote device wishes to terminate the ad hoc session, they can do it from the kebab menu in the Viso app on their device.

To terminate the ad hoc session:

  1. Tap on the Viso app icon.

  2. In the Viso app, click on the kebab menu in the upper right-hand corner:

  3. In the drop-down menu, click Start Ad Hoc Session.

Your 9-digit code will appear again.

  4. Click on the X in the upper-right corner. This will terminate the ad-hoc session as well.

Now, when the administrator refreshes their list of devices, the ad hoc device will no longer appear:
